Pee Gee Hydrangea

Pee Gee Hydrangea
Hydrangea paniculata 'Grandiflora'
6' to 8' high and 8' to 10' wide.
Full sun/partial shade
White flowers bloom in summer turning toward tan in fall. Can also be grow in tree form.

Nikko Blue Hydrangea

Nikko Blue Hydrangea
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Nikko Blue'
4' to 6' high and 4' to 6' wide.
Part shade
Round blue mophead flowers in acidic soil, pink to purple in alkaline soil.

Phantom Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculata 'Phantom'
6' to 8' high and 6' to 8' wide.
Full sun/partial shade
Very large flowerheads of white bloom at the ends of current year's growth in summer. Fade to pinkish-tan as they age. Stems are very thick, supporting the large flowers. Can also be grown in tree form.

Teller Blue Lacecap Hydrangea

Partial shade
Flowers consist of larger flat sterile petals surrounding the small fertile inner florets. Flowers are blue in acidic soil and pink to purple in alkaline soil.

There are many varieties of Hydrangeas available for the landscape. We only grow a few varieties here at our nursery. Hydrangeas are mostly known for their large clusters of flowers in either pink or blue. Usually it depends on the amount of aluminum in the soil to determine the color. Alkaline soils are higher in aluminum and make pinker flowers. Acidic soils make bluer flowers. These like a little bit of shade.

There are other varieties though that have white flowers. Some come in a flat form with tiny flowers in the center of a ring of larger petals. We carry white varieties that thrive in the sun. They can even be grown in an upright form like a small tree. Hydrangea leaves are large and coarse giving the shrub a much larger presence in the landscape even when it isn't flowering.
