Viburnums
Viburnums
Viburnums come in many sizes and shapes. Some are very fragrant when in bloom. Some are known more for their berries or fall coloration.
The flowers are white when they bloom. Some of them have buds that are pink or red before opening. The early spring bloomers are the most fragrant.
They are right at home as understory shrubs. They are right at home in partial sun found at the edge of the woods. The fragrant ones need more sun. They actually bloom before most trees have their leaves, so not a problem.
The white flowers can really light up the slightly shady areas along the woods. Some flower forms look like snowballs. Others look like fine glassware sitting on a shelf of leaves.
These are not some dainty little bushes. They make their presence known with their larger size. Many will get to be 8 to 12 feet in size.
