Spireas
Spireas
Spireas bloom with large clusters of fine white, or pink to red flowers that give the appearance of a much larger flower. The foliage on some are shades of yellow in the early season, gently changing to chartreuse in summer.
The new growth on some varieties starts out almost red before changing to its shade of green. Spireas are smaller shrubs with smaller, fuller foliage. They make great hedges or foundation plantings.
Spireas come in a variety of styles and sizes. There are smaller ones that have small leaves and only grow about 1-3 feet tall. Some Spireas grow into larger mounded shrubs with arching branches.
Others are more upright in form. Leaves can be a small oval in shape on up to larger, more traditional leaf shape with multiple lobes. From early spring until the cold frosts of fall, there is a Spirea that is right for your landscape.
